Description

Trains to safely and efficiently receive baggage from the belt loader and place it into the baggage cart. The lesson emphasizes rhythm, posture, and coordination between ground crew members, ensuring ergonomic handling and accuracy during active unloading.

Lesson Overview

  1. 1Standing position setup at the base of the belt loader
  2. 2Coordination and readiness confirmation with the colleague in the cargo hold
  3. 3Receiving baggage from the moving belt using correct two-hand grip
  4. 4Placing baggage safely and smoothly into the cart
  5. 5Maintaining rhythm, precision, and posture across all items

Skills Acquired

  • Safely receive and handle baggage from the moving belt using correct two-hand technique
  • Maintain ergonomic posture, rhythm, and focus under live apron conditions
  • Coordinate smoothly with the colleague in the aircraft
  • Place baggage accurately and efficiently into the cart while avoiding drops or misplacement

Lesson Procedure

  • The lesson begins with the trainee standing on the apron between the belt loader and the baggage cart. The belt loader is active but not yet carrying baggage.
  • The trainee looks up the belt to confirm readiness with the colleague in the cargo hold. Once confirmed, unloading begins.
  • As baggage starts to descend, the trainee watches attentively and prepares for each incoming piece.
    • Step 1: Grabs the baggage firmly using both hands at the indicated grip points.
    • Step 2: Rotates slightly toward the left or right (depending on layout) and places the baggage smoothly into the highlighted area of the cart.
  • Each correct action is rewarded with positive feedback, while errors such as late reaction, one-handed grabbing, or dropping baggage trigger a rewind and corrective prompt.
  • The process repeats for five baggage pieces, reinforcing rhythm, coordination, and ergonomic precision.
  • The lesson concludes once all five pieces are placed correctly into the cart, confirming safe handling and operational readiness on the live apron.
