This assessment verifies the trainee’s understanding of all Pushback (Towbar) Equipment 101 lessons through a multiple-choice exam. It reinforces core safety logic, correct coupling/detachment sequencing, and equipment-readiness knowledge needed before moving into live operations.
Exam Overview
1Introduction to the exam and its purpose
2Series of 15 randomized questions covering all Equipment 101 lessons
3Immediate feedback per question to reinforce correct reasoning
4A minimum score of 80% (12 correct answers) is required to pass
Skills Acquired
Recall and apply safety-critical procedures across pushback equipment fundamentals
Demonstrate understanding of tractor/towbar functions (front coupling, inching system, hand pump, shear pins)
Confirm theoretical readiness across all Equipment 101 lessons before advancing
Exam Procedure
The exam consists of 15 questions selected from a pool, each offering multiple answer options. Question order is randomized, and for each question alternative questions/answers may be used to support replayability.
Questions cover all prior Pushback (Towbar) Equipment 101 lessons: Equipment Basics, Coupling Towbar to Aircraft, Coupling Towbar to Tractor, Detaching Towbar, and Walkaround.
Each response receives immediate confirmation or corrective feedback to reinforce correct reasoning.
After all questions are answered, a score of at least 12 correct answers is required to pass; otherwise the exam is not considered successfully completed.
Sample Exam Questions
What are the three main components of a pushback setup with a towbar?
What is the primary function of the automatic front coupling on the pushback tractor?
What is the purpose of the front inching system on the pushback tractor?
What is the purpose of shear pins on the towbar head?
Why must you insert the steering bypass pin before attaching the towbar to the aircraft?
What must you never forget after coupling the towbar to the nose gear tow fitting?
What should you do before pushing the towbar toward the nose gear?
What happens if you forget to remove the steering bypass pin after pushback?
